Selkirk, Manitoba residents can enjoy a mostly sunny start to the week before rain and possible thunderstorms move in on Monday, according to Environment Canada.
The Environment Canada forecast calls for a 60 percent chance of showers near noon on Monday, with a high of 26 C and a humidex reaching 34. Wind will be from the south at 20 km/h, gusting to 40 km/h. As of 2:00 p.m. Monday, conditions at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport showed partly cloudy skies with a temperature of 23.6 C and wind gusts up to 45 km/h.
Tonight, the risk of thunderstorms rises to 70 percent, with clearing expected overnight and a low of 16 C. The Weather Network notes a low risk of a strong thunderstorm between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Monday, but no weather alerts are currently in effect for Selkirk or the surrounding Rural Municipality of St. Andrews.
Tuesday will stay unsettled, with a 60 percent chance of showers and an afternoon thunderstorm risk. The high will be 22 C, with a humidex of 27 and northwest winds gusting to 40 km/h. Overnight lows are expected to drop to 15 C under cloudy skies.
Conditions improve starting Wednesday, with sunny skies and clear nights from August 26 through Saturday, August 29. Highs will climb from 24 C to 26 C, with overnight lows between 10 C and 14 C. Environment Canada says average highs for this time of year are 23 C, making the coming sunny stretch slightly warmer than usual.
