Sherwood Park residents can expect a warm and sunny start to September, with temperatures climbing well above normal before unsettled weather returns later in the week, according to Environment Canada.
Tuesday’s forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 26 C, about seven degrees warmer than the typical September high of 19 C. Winds could gust up to 40 km/h near noon, with a Humidex of 28 and a moderate UV index of 5. No weather alerts are currently in effect for the area.
The warm spell is good news for those with outdoor plans early in the week, but conditions will begin to shift by Thursday. Environment Canada is calling for a mix of sun and cloud with a 40 percent chance of showers and a high of 19 C. Friday will be similar, with a high of only 16 C and a continued chance of wet weather.
The forecast follows an exceptionally wet June in the Edmonton region, which saw more than 255 millimetres of rain and caused major flooding in parts of Sherwood Park, including the Jubilee Landing community and a washout of Township Road 534. While current conditions are calm, the county’s stormwater system remains on the minds of many residents after that record-breaking month.
Looking further ahead, long-range forecasts from The Old Farmer’s Almanac suggest September and October 2026 will be warmer than normal with above-average precipitation for the Edmonton area.
