The Village of Haines Junction has announced a temporary closure of the Dezadeash River Trail, effective immediately. The public notice was posted on August 28, 2026, and residents are being asked to contact the Village for details on when the trail will reopen.
The Dezadeash River Trail is a well-loved local route through wetlands, meadows, and forest along the Dezadeash River, offering views of the Auriol Range. The trail ranges from 3.5 to 6 kilometres and is considered easy and family-friendly.
The Village of Haines Junction did not state a reason for the closure or how long it will last. Anyone planning to use the trail is encouraged to check with the Village directly for updates.
The Village’s Public Works department maintains the trail, along with other parks and playgrounds in the community. Haines Junction has been investing in its trail network, including a recent project to add signage and a trail app. In August 2025, council approved a motion to include the Dezadeash Trail in the official trail network map and install a sign at the trailhead.
