Motorists in Slave Lake should plan for temporary road closures on East and West Mitsue Road over the next several days due to CN railway crossing improvements. The MD of Lesser Slave River issued the notice on September 1, 2026, outlining a schedule that begins with single-lane closures and moves to full closures with detours available.
West Mitsue Road will be down to one lane from September 5 to 8. A full closure of that road follows from September 8 to 10, with a detour in place. East Mitsue Road will have a single-lane closure September 10 to 13, then a full closure with a detour from September 14 to 16.
The roads provide access to Mitsue Industrial Park, located about 15 kilometres east of Slave Lake. The park is home to three major timber processing mills, oil and gas service providers, and one of North America’s largest calcium chloride producers, all reliant on the routes for daily operations and shipments.
These closures follow an earlier single-lane closure on East Mitsue Road on August 24, 2026, as part of the ongoing railway crossing work.
