Community groups in Haines Junction have until September 15 to apply for this year’s second round of C-CARE funding. The Village posted a call for proposals on September 2, opening the door for local organizations to seek money for culture, arts, recreation, and environmental projects.
The Community Culture, Arts, Recreation and Environment Fund provides $125,000 per year, split between two intakes. The first intake in late 2025 handed out $62,500 to seven organizations, including $24,416 to Junction Arts and Music for the Glacier Nights Festival and $9,950 to the Yukon Bluegrass Music Society. That round drew $109,957.12 in requests, showing strong local demand.
The C-CARE program was approved by Council on September 24, 2025, and its oversight committee was established through Bylaw 434-25. The program is guided by a committee of five community volunteers plus Councillor Sydney Mackinnon. The committee members, appointed in October 2025, serve until April 2029. They review applications and recommend which projects get funded.
Funding is intended for projects that promote diversity and inclusion, volunteerism, community engagement, active living, collaboration, and cultural or environmental sustainability. The program aligns with Council’s 2025-2028 Strategic Plan goal of investing in the community.
