Environment Canada issued the forecast at 11:00 AM MST on Monday, September 14, and it shows temperatures reaching 18°C on Monday and Wednesday, well above the usual early-fall high of 12°C.
The Environment Canada forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud on Tuesday and Thursday, with highs of 15°C both days. The mild conditions, which are being felt across northern Canada this fall, are linked to an exceptional El Niño event that is expected to keep temperatures warmer than normal through the seasonal transition.
As of 1:00 PM Monday, the temperature in Haines Junction was 12.8°C under calm winds, with humidity at 52%. The forecast shows the warm trend continuing into Wednesday, when sunny skies and a high of 18°C are expected. That’s about 5 to 6 degrees above the village’s normal September maximum.
The pleasant stretch won’t last all week, however. Friday brings periods of rain with a high of 15°C, and by the weekend temperatures will settle back to the seasonal norm of 12°C under a mix of sun and cloud. For the village of about 688 people, it’s a good time to get outside before the cooler weather returns.
