Business owners in Airdrie, Alberta, are meeting with government leaders today, Feb. 5, 2026, to discuss economic pressures facing the city. The event is hosted by the Airdrie Regional Chamber of Commerce and is listed on the Chamber’s events calendar; the Chamber’s Advocacy Roundtable briefing says attendees include municipal, provincial and federal representatives, including Mayor Peter Brown and regional MLAs and MPs.
The meeting gives local shop and service owners an opportunity to raise concerns ahead of the Alberta Budget 2026, scheduled for release on Feb. 26. According to the Airdrie Regional Chamber of Commerce’s recent internal survey (the Chamber’s “REACH: Low 8%” metric), just 8% of local small‑to‑medium enterprises say they currently have the capacity to expand amid inflationary and tax pressures.
Participants are meeting with Mayor Peter Brown and other elected officials about infrastructure needs. A major priority discussed is funding for the Highway 2/Balzac interchange project — a key route for the region’s large logistics and warehousing sector.
The roundtable is also highlighting the need for more healthcare services and for reducing red tape in provincial‑municipal licensing and permitting. The Chamber has warned that government spending must keep pace with Airdrie’s rapid population growth to sustain the local economy.
