Ajax Fire and Emergency Services issued a public safety notice on February 13, 2026, to help residents stay safe during Lunar New Year celebrations in Ajax, Ontario, by providing specific rules for using fireworks. The advisory aims to prevent injuries and property damage while reducing the number of emergency calls during the holiday.

In 2026, the town is allowing residents to use fireworks on their own property on February 16, 17, and 18. According to Ajax Fire and Emergency Services, these displays are only permitted between the hours of 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. during this three-day window.

It is illegal to set off fireworks on any public street, roadway, or in town parks. The Town of Ajax updated its local laws in 2022 to include Lunar New Year and Diwali as permitted holidays for these celebrations.

Safety officials recommend that anyone using fireworks should set them at a 10-degree angle pointing away from spectators. They also remind residents never to use fireworks in windy conditions to help protect pets and property from harm.
