Property owners in Ajax, Ontario, will see a $52.90 stormwater charge on their final property tax bills in 2026. The Town of Ajax includes this fee annually to fund the maintenance and operation of local infrastructure that manages rain and melted snow.
The fee is not entirely new, as it was first introduced by the Town of Ajax Council in 2023 at a flat rate of $48 per home. Since then, the cost has risen incrementally to keep up with the rising costs of municipal services and infrastructure maintenance.
According to the 2026 Operating Budget, the charge is adjusted every year based on a local measurement called the Municipal Price Index. This system provides a dedicated source of money to look after the town’s network of ponds and pipes that help prevent local flooding.
Residents will find the charge listed on their final property tax bill later this year. The fee applies to both residential and non-residential properties to help cover the long-term costs of keeping the town’s water management systems in good working order.
