Residents in Ajax, Ontario, will begin moving into a new townhome development later this year after the project received government approval in just five weeks. The community, known as “Time,” is located at the intersection of Rossland Road West and Harkins Drive.
According to Marshall Homes, the 81-unit project moved much faster than the typical two-year wait for planning permission. This speed allowed the developer to start building in early 2025 and confirm that the first homes will be finished in 2026.
The Marshall Homes team stated that cutting down on administrative wait times saved between $20,000 and $27,000 on the cost of each home. Because of these savings, the townhomes were offered in the mid-$600,000 range, which is lower than the usual price for new houses in the area.
The Mayor of Ajax used special provincial powers to help speed up the process to meet local housing goals. The project was originally planned for about 27 units but was tripled in size to 81 homes to help more people find a place to live near transit corridors.
