The Durham Regional Police Service is asking for help to find a 40-year-old man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant who is believed to be hiding in Ajax, Ontario. Jermaine Weekes is wanted for two counts of extortion following a large investigation by the Winnipeg Police Service that started in 2025.
Weekes previously lived in Ajax and officers believe he may currently be in the Durham Region area. The investigation into Weekes began in July 2025 after several small retail businesses, including convenience stores and a warehouse, were targeted with arson and extortion demands.
A total of seven individuals were identified during the investigation, and police allege the group used fire to threaten business owners. While five people were arrested in January 2026, Weekes and another man named Farhan Nabil have not yet been found.
Between July 16 and July 23, 2025, police responded to multiple fires and threats where suspects demanded money from local shops. Officials in Winnipeg stated these crimes created fear in the community and put lives at risk.
