Environment Canada removed the winter storm warning for Ajax, Ontario, on Monday, January 26, 2026, following a weekend of heavy snowfall. While the official alert, which warned of 20–40 centimetres of snow, is no longer in place, residents still face bitter wind chills and lake-effect blowing snow that make travel difficult on local streets.
The Environment Canada warning ended at roughly 9 a.m. because the snow is no longer falling at the fast rate required for a formal alert. However, clearing crews from the Town of Ajax are still working to clear side streets and remove the large windrows left at the end of residential driveways.
The Durham Regional Police Service is warning drivers that visibility can change quickly near Lake Ontario due to drifting snow. Police are asking people involved in minor car accidents to go to the Durham Regional Police Service Collision Reporting Centre in Whitby (650 Rossland Rd E) so officers can focus on more serious emergencies during the cleanup.
Elexicon Energy crews have been restoring pockets of outages in south Ajax caused by heavy, wet snow and strong winds on Sunday. At the same time, Durham Region Transit is operating some routes on snow detours; riders are being advised to check DRT service alerts as residential roads are cleared.
Even though there are no active weather warnings, the forecast still shows light flurries and very cold temperatures for the rest of Monday. Local officials suggest checking the town’s online snow plow map to see when your street is next scheduled for salting or clearing.
