Families in Altona, Manitoba, can now sign up for the 2026 baseball season as Altona Minor Baseball officially opened its registration on February 1, 2026, with new rules designed to improve player enjoyment. These sign-ups allow the organization to begin forming teams and planning for the spring season as the community prepares for the upcoming thaw.

The new season brings a major change for older players at the 15U elite level, where the regional league is moving to a one-team system. Under this new rule, players who make the top-tier AAA roster will play only for that specific team instead of also playing for their local home association teams.

For younger players at the 13U level, the league is now requiring all communities to form equal teams for regular club play. This change is meant to let children play with their friends and focus on having fun without being separated into different skill levels at the very beginning of the season.

Experienced players can also attend upcoming regional tryouts, known as identification camps, which begin on February 15, 2026, at the Meridian Exhibition Centre in Winkler. Families who want to start practicing early can book time in the local batting cages by contacting the Town of Altona recreation office.
