Baseball players in Altona, Manitoba, can now sign up for regional tryouts as local organizers prepare for the 2026 summer season. The announcement, posted by Altona Minor Baseball on Feb. 1, 2026, gives local athletes a chance to compete for spots on South Central regional AAA and AA teams.
South Central Minor Baseball has changed its roster rules for older players: for 2026 all 15U AAA players will single-roster and play only for the AAA team — a policy passed at the Fall 2025 South Central meeting. League officials say the move is intended to address player burnout and help preserve competitive balance in community club play.
Younger players in the 13U group will still be able to double-roster, playing for both their local Altona club team and for South Central regional squads if they make them. To protect pitchers, South Central is also proposing a weekday pitch limit for AAA pitchers (about 45–50 pitches; exact number TBC), while teams must continue to follow Baseball Manitoba’s pitch-count rules for all league and tournament play.
Evaluation camps and ID sessions are scheduled for March and April 2026 at regional hubs — commonly Access Field in Altona and venues in Winkler and Morden — with detailed dates and locations to be posted by organizers. These tryouts are the first step for local players who want to develop their skills, compete in South Central playdowns in early July, and pursue provincial championships at the end of July (and into early August).
