CurlManitoba has announced that the 2027 Manitoba Men’s Bunge Championship will be held in Altona, Manitoba. The provincial curling event is set to take place from January 26 to January 31, 2027, at the Sunflower Gardens Arena.
The Altona Curling Club submitted the winning bid to host the tournament to mark its 100th anniversary. The club was first founded in 1927 and has hosted many major competitions over the years, including the 2011 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
The championship will be held inside the Town of Altona Millennium Exhibition Centre. This 75,000-square-foot facility includes a four-sheet curling rink and a large ice arena with enough seating for more than 700 spectators.
Organizers expect 24 teams from across the province to travel to the area for the competition. The arrival of players and fans is expected to fill local hotel rooms and restaurants, providing a significant boost to businesses in the community.
Keith Stoesz, the co-chair of the host committee, noted that the club wanted to bring a major event to town for its centennial year. The local club is known for its strong community roots and hosts one of the busiest youth curling programs in the province, with dozens of juniors playing each week.
