The Town of Altona, Manitoba, is hosting an Olympic-themed Winter Carnival on Saturday, February 7, 2026, to help residents stay active during the coldest part of the year. Activities will be held across town facilities — including Buffalo Creek Nature Pond, the Rhineland Pioneer Centre, the Millennium Exhibition Centre (MEC) and Sunflower Gardens Arena — and will feature outdoor skating, cardboard toboggan races, a snowshoe dash, hockey and curling challenges, family meals and other winter events.

This community celebration follows the recent launch of a new youth pickleball program that began on January 28, 2026. Local volunteer and instructor Gord Sawatzky is leading weekly pickleball sessions for youth ages 8–17. The multi-week program runs Wednesday evenings at the Millennium Exhibition Centre (227 10th Ave NW) and is designed as an instructional and social league to teach the basics of the sport and encourage continued participation.

To keep the activities accessible, the Altona Recreation Department provides paddles and balls for the youth pickleball sessions. Families can register and find more information on the town’s recreation page (ActiveNet online registration portal). Parents must sign a liability waiver through the ActiveNet system before their children may take part in indoor court activities; a nominal registration fee applies to the program.
