Residents in Amherstburg, Ontario, faced dangerous driving and boating conditions after a thick blanket of fog caused near-zero visibility across the region from late Saturday night into early Sunday morning.

Environment Canada issued a yellow fog advisory at 11:59 p.m. on February 14, 2026. The alert warned that travel would be hazardous due to the heavy fog affecting the Windsor-Leamington-Essex County area.

The conditions specifically impacted the waterfront, where visibility was limited at the Boblo Island Marina and the K. Walter Ranta Marina. Because of the low visibility, the Boblo Island Ferry was required to follow strict Transport Canada safety protocols, which can lead to service delays for residents of Bois Blanc Island.

Local officials from the Town of Amherstburg oversee road safety and the waterfront, monitoring conditions as the fog created difficult commutes for those returning home from late-night events. Drivers were told to expect delays and use extra caution on the roads until the air cleared.

The advisory was officially lifted at 3:04 p.m. on February 15, 2026. Sunny weather returned to the community shortly after the warning ended.
