A warm and muggy week is settling over Amherstburg, Ontario, bringing daytime highs in the low 30s and a chance of afternoon showers through Friday.
Environment Canada says Monday will be sunny with a high of 30°C and a humidex of 36. Winds are expected to pick up from the southeast at 30 km/h by late afternoon. The UV index is forecast at 9, which is considered very high.
This evening and after midnight will be clear, then skies will become partly cloudy overnight with a 30 percent chance of showers and a risk of a thunderstorm. The low tonight is expected to be 20°C.
Tuesday will be mainly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers in the morning and early afternoon, then showers are expected to begin in the afternoon. There is also a risk of a thunderstorm in the morning and afternoon. The high is forecast at 29°C, but it will feel more like 37 with the humidity.
The remainder of the week stays warm and unsettled. Wednesday will be cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers and a high of 31°C. Thursday and Friday will see a mix of sun and cloud with a 40 and 30 percent chance of showers respectively, and highs of 31°C and 28°C. Saturday is looking like a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 30°C and no mention of rain in the early forecast.
These temperatures are well above the normal highs of 25°C for early June. The humidity will make it feel even warmer, though the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit notes that humidex values are expected to stay below the 42°C threshold that would trigger a heat warning. No weather alerts are currently in effect for the area.
The building heat is part of a wider pattern across southwestern Ontario, where The Weather Network says humidex values could approach the 40s and thunderstorms are possible starting Tuesday afternoon.
