The County of Essex has released a five-year plan to repair roads, bridges, and culverts in Amherstburg, Ontario, through 2030. The detailed plan, published on February 20, 2026, aims to give residents a clear look at upcoming construction and detours in their community.

This year alone, the county is spending about $111.46 million on its total construction program. The first project of the 2026 season officially began today, Monday, March 2, 2026, marking the start of a multi-year effort to modernize the local transit network.

In Amherstburg, major work for 2026 includes replacing large drainage pipes at the Sancrainte Drain on County Road 20 near River Canard. Crews will also be working on the Antaya Drain on County Road 9 and resurfacing Walker Road between Texas Road and County Road 12.

According to the County of Essex Infrastructure and Planning Department, another project will focus on County Road 20 from municipal address 1484 to County Road 10. These projects are part of a larger strategy to maintain roads in good condition and improve safety for commuters.
