The Windsor Police Service is investigating four recent distraction thefts that targeted elderly residents in Amherstburg and Windsor over the weekend of April 18 to April 20, 2026. The incidents involved victims in their 70s and 80s who were approached by two suspects while in residential areas and retail parking lots.
According to police, a man and a woman driving a white Toyota RAV4 initiate contact with victims by offering them costume jewelry as a gift. While the victim is distracted by the offer, the suspects steal the individual’s own valuable jewelry before fleeing the scene. These crimes are linked to case numbers 26-40641, 26-40943, 26-40970, and 26-41049.
The suspects are described as a Middle Eastern man, estimated to be between 30 and 35 years old, and a Middle Eastern woman, estimated to be between 25 and 30 years old with dark hair and dark eyes. Police note that this type of theft has become an ongoing concern in the region, as this marks the fourth time officials have issued warnings regarding similar activities targeting seniors within the past year.
