Farmers and families in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, can now participate in a new program designed to make fresh food more affordable while supporting local growers. The Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture and Nova Scotia Loyal updated a pilot project for Community Supported Agriculture on January 30, 2026, to help residents buy farm subscriptions at a lower cost.

Under the plan, residents who sign up for a farm subscription receive a 10 per cent discount on their total cost. The provincial government then pays that 10 per cent back to the farm so the producer does not lose any profit on the sale.

Participating farms are also eligible for up to $2,000 to help with marketing and advertising costs. They also receive a free one-year subscription to an online sales platform called Local Line to help them reach more customers through the internet.

Agriculture Minister Greg Morrow said the program is intended to help more people access fresh food and strengthen the bond between farmers and the community. This support is expected to help local vendors at the Antigonish Farmers Market find more stable income throughout the year.

Producers at the Eastern Nova Scotia Exhibition can also use the program to find new year-round customers during the annual fair. The event provides a place for farmers to promote these discounted subscriptions to residents and build long-term relationships with local shoppers.
