Residents in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, should prepare for a quick shift in weather as snow and freezing temperatures on March 1, 2026, will be followed by a rapid warmup just a few days later. According to Environment Canada, the area will see periods of snow on Sunday with an overnight low of -15°C. This temperature is significantly colder than the usual seasonal low of -9°C for early March.

By Wednesday, March 4, 2026, the temperature is expected to climb to a high of +4°C. This warmup is likely to bring a 60 per cent chance of rain showers or flurries, creating the potential for slushy roads and localized flooding as the snow melts. The Eastern District Planning Commission has previously identified the Rights River and West River as high-risk areas that are frequently affected by rapid runoff and rainstorms.

To help keep the community moving, the Town of Antigonish will prioritize snow removal on main roads. Crews will focus on clearing Main Street, Church Street, West Street, and Hawthorne Street first to ensure emergency vehicles can travel safely. Residents are encouraged to clear drainage areas around their properties to help manage the melting snow and prevent water from pooling on the streets.
