Statistics Canada has begun a local hiring push in Arnprior, Ontario, to recruit workers for the 2026 Census of Population. Residents can apply for short-term field positions — primarily as enumerators (door-to-door data collectors) and crew leaders (supervisors) — to help ensure every household in the community is counted.

The agency is hiring for enumerator and crew leader roles. Pay is $25.87 per hour for enumerators (non-supervisory) and $31.32 per hour for crew leaders (supervisory), plus authorized expenses. These positions are flexible and often involve evening or weekend work, making them well suited to students, retirees and others seeking temporary extra income.

Local recruitment is being supported by ontrac Employment Resource Services, which serves Arnprior, Renfrew and Smiths Falls. Applicants must have reached the age of majority in their province or territory, reside in Canada with a Canadian home address, and be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (or hold a valid work permit). Candidates must also be eligible to obtain a Reliability Status security screening required for census employment. Applications are accepted online through the official census.gc.ca portal; the application window runs until July 31, 2026 (timelines may vary by location).

Most census work is centered on Census Day, May 12, 2026. Statistics Canada says crew leaders (supervisory staff) generally begin in March 2026, while many enumerators begin their duties closer to May, though exact start dates depend on local operations. The 2026 Census represents a more robust return to traditional in-person data collection in many regions, including the Ottawa Valley, compared with the 2021 Census, which was affected by COVID-19 restrictions.
