The 2026 Arnprior Optimist Winter Carnival began on January 10, 2026, bringing nine days of activities to the community of Arnprior, Ontario. Organized by the Arnprior Optimist Club, the event is part of the town’s Wintermission strategy to help residents stay active and social during the coldest months of the year.
This year’s festival has grown to cover more dates than usual, running through January 18, 2026. The early kickoff on Saturday featured a new indoor play centre for young children at Valley Play, an all‑weather offering organizers say was added to ensure families have activities regardless of outdoor ice or weather conditions.
Families can take part in a variety of events including dog sledding, skating relay races, and bowling at the Nick Smith Centre and other local venues. Local reporting from ArnpriorToday and Renfrew Today notes that activities are spread across the community to encourage broad participation.
Most events are affordable for local families, requiring a $2 commemorative carnival button for entry to most activities; some food or special events may carry separate nominal fees. Valley Heritage Radio’s community-events listing includes a community breakfast among the carnival offerings; local coverage and past schedules commonly refer to that morning meal as the “Shanty Breakfast.”
