On March 2, 2026, the Aurora Public Library in Aurora, Ontario, hosted a special lunch to celebrate International Women’s Day. The event gave local women and newcomers a chance to meet each other while enjoying a meal and receiving free support items.
The event happened from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and provided everyone who attended with a light lunch and a self-care kit to take home. Because there was only enough room for a certain number of people, residents were asked to sign up for the lunch by February 27, 2026.
This year, International Women’s Day is following the theme “Give To Gain,” which focuses on how reciprocity and collaboration can help achieve gender equality. Jodi Marr, the CEO of the library, is currently leading a new strategic plan to make library programs more responsive to the diverse needs of the community.
The library often works with partners like the Welcome Centre Immigrant Services to help new residents feel at home. By offering items like wellness kits and a place to talk, the library aims to help women build friendships and find the local resources they need.
