An Innisfil man is facing multiple charges following a fire that caused an estimated $1 million in damage to an industrial building near the border of Aurora and Whitchurch-Stouffville. On Sunday, May 3, 2026, emergency crews arrived at the industrial site near Warden Avenue and Aurora Road to find thick smoke pouring from the property.
The York Regional Police and Central York Fire Services responded to the scene at approximately 3:18 p.m. While the building sustained significant damage, officials confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident.
Police arrested 59-year-old Filipe Da Silva at the location. He has been charged with arson, mischief for damaging property exceeding $5,000, and two counts of uttering threats toward a person, as well as one count of uttering threats to property.
The investigation is being led by the #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau. Authorities stated that they believe this was an isolated event and that there is no ongoing threat to public safety in the surrounding community.
