The York Region District School Board will hold a public meeting on February 25, 2026, to discuss a plan that could change which high schools students in Aurora, Ontario, attend. This meeting will focus on the new Dr. Bette Stephenson Secondary School, which is currently being built and is set to open its doors in September 2027.
Under the new proposal, students from Aurora Grove Public School might be moved from the recently opened Dr. G.W. Williams Secondary School to the new facility. The new school is located at 36 Regatta Ave in Richmond Hill and is a conversion of an existing learning centre with a large new addition that began construction in July 2025.
The plan also suggests moving French Immersion students who live in Oak Ridges out of Aurora High School. If approved, these students would attend the new Dr. Bette Stephenson Secondary School instead, which could help make Aurora High School less crowded.
This update follows the opening of the replacement Dr. G.W. Williams Secondary School at 11 Spring Farm Rd, which welcomed its first students in September 2025. The board is moving forward with these changes to better organize where students go to school as new buildings are completed.
Parents are encouraged to attend the meeting to learn how these changes might affect school bus eligibility and access to specific student programs. Staff will be available to answer questions about the new school areas and how they impact local families.
