The Town of Aurora, Ontario, has published its 2026 Waste Collection Guide online to help residents understand new rules for garbage and recycling, including a one-day pickup delay during the week of February 16, 2026, for the Family Day holiday.
One major update is that large items like couches and mattresses are no longer picked up automatically from the curb. Residents who need to get rid of these items must now call GFL Environmental at 1-866-421-5625 to schedule a pickup for their regular collection day.
The way recycling is handled has also changed, with a group called Circular Materials now managing the Blue Box program instead of the local government. While the town still picks up green bins and regular garbage, it stopped providing these services to business properties on January 1, 2026.
Homeowners are still limited to a maximum of three garbage bags or containers every two weeks. While printed copies of the calendar were mailed to homes in late 2025, residents can continue to use the digital guide or the Recycle Coach app to see how the new rules affect their street.
