Secondary students in Aurora, Ontario can now sign up for the 2026 York Region Envirothon, a hands-on environmental science competition. York Region opened registration for the event on February 23, 2026, and will accept team entries until March 24, 2026.
The competition takes place over two days on April 23 and 24, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. It will be held at the Lake St. George Field Centre in Richmond Hill, a site managed by the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority. Students will test their skills in forestry, soil, wildlife, and water health.
This year’s special focus is Non-Point Source Pollution: It Begins at Home! which explores how pollution from daily life enters local waterways. Participation is open to students in grades 9 through 12 from public, private, or home schools. Community groups like 4-H clubs can also form five-member teams for a registration fee of $275 plus HST.
The winning team from the regional event will receive a $150 gift card for outdoor gear and a commemorative plaque for their school. They will also earn a spot to compete in the provincial Ontario Envirothon from May 24 to 27, 2026. Interested teachers and students can register through Forests Canada to secure a spot.
