York Regional Police are appealing to the public to help identify a suspect in an unprovoked assault that took place on December 23, 2025, in a plaza parking lot near Mable Smith Way and Interchange Way in Vaughan, Ontario. Investigators say the attack happened just after 6:00 p.m. and was a random encounter that left one of the pedestrians with minor injuries.
According to the official news release, two people were walking through the commercial plaza near the Highway 400 interchange when an unknown male approached from behind, grabbed one of the victims and “assaulted them with a sharp object” before fleeing the scene.

Police describe him as a light-complexioned man in his late 30s to early 40s, about 5’10” to 6’0″ tall with a medium-to-heavy build, brown or black facial hair, and possibly brown or black hair or wearing a dark-coloured toque. He was last seen wearing a blue and green plaid jacket and dark pants.
Residents and business owners are urged to review dashcam and CCTV footage and to register their cameras with the Security Camera Registry. “Crime prevention is our shared responsibility,” the police statement said.
