The Friends of the Barrhead Public Library Society is inviting residents to raise a glass on Thursday, November 5, 2026, for a fundraiser that pairs international beverages with regional snacks. The event, called “Discover a World of Stories and Flavour,” takes place at the Barrhead Public Library, with Pembina West Co-op as the tasting host.
Tickets cost $40 each and can be purchased in advance at the library. Proceeds will support the library’s programs and services. Along with the tastings, attendees can learn about the resources available at their library.
The fundraiser is part of the library’s ongoing community engagement. The library celebrated its 75th anniversary in February 2025, having started in December 1950 with a $200 donation from the estate of homesteader Jack McKerracher. It is unique as a combined school and public facility.
Pembina West Co-op has been serving the Barrhead community since 1944 and opened its liquor store in Barrhead on April 26, 2018. The co-op is locally owned by over 10,000 member-owners.
