The Firebird Community Cycle is looking for new volunteers to help repair bicycles and manage operations at its shop at 134 Anne St. South in Barrie, Ontario. This recruitment drive aims to find people who can fix used bikes, salvage spare parts, and teach the public how to maintain their own equipment.

The organization is working with Volunteer Barrie (Information Barrie portal) to fill several different roles beyond just mechanical work. The group also needs help with fundraising, web design, and new members for its board of directors to help guide the non-profit.

Firebird Community Cycle focuses on taking donated bikes that might otherwise be thrown away and fixing them up so they are safe to ride. These refurbished bicycles provide an affordable way for residents, including local youth and low-income individuals, to get around the city.

This push for more help comes as the City of Barrie has implemented its New Transit Network (phased rollouts in 2024–2025) and is advancing its Active Transportation plans, which aim to support cycling and walking as regular travel options.

Volunteers who join the team gain hands-on experience with tools and mechanical repairs in a workshop at 134 Anne St. South, at the site run in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association. Those interested in helping can find the specific job listings and application details through the Information Barrie/Volunteer Barrie website.
