Environment Canada has issued an orange winter storm warning for Bay Roberts, Newfoundland, as a major storm is expected to bring up to 40 centimetres of snow starting Monday evening, March 23, 2026. This warning indicates that the weather is likely to cause significant disruptions and could last for several days.
The weather will start as heavy snow before changing to ice pellets and freezing rain on Tuesday. According to Environment Canada, the precipitation will turn to rain as it gets warmer during the day, but it will change back to snow on Tuesday night when temperatures fall. Some parts of southeastern Newfoundland could see as much as 50 centimetres of total snowfall by the time the storm ends.
Wind gusts are forecast to reach between 80 and 100 kilometres per hour on Tuesday night, which may cause visibility to drop to near zero. Meteorologist Mike Vandenberg warned that the combination of heavy snow and high winds will create hazardous conditions that could make travel nearly impossible at times.
The Town of Bay Roberts has issued an emergency announcement asking residents to prepare for the severe weather and has provided emergency contact numbers for town related issues. A storm surge warning is also in effect for the area, and local authorities are urging people to use extreme caution and stay away from beach areas.
