Residents of Bay Roberts, Newfoundland, should prepare for a blast of cold air and strong winds on Saturday, February 7, 2026. According to Environment Canada’s Bay Roberts forecast, the area will see northeast winds reaching 50 kilometres per hour with gusts up to 70 kilometres per hour (Environment Canada, Bay Roberts forecast). These conditions are expected to create a wind chill around minus 14 throughout the day, making it feel much colder than the actual temperature.

The Town of Bay Roberts Emergency Management Committee is asking people to secure loose things around their homes, such as patio furniture and garbage bins, before the wind picks up. Because the wind is coming from the northeast, it can blow sea spray and moisture directly into the town, which may cause slippery roads and sidewalks. Environment Canada forecasts peak gusts during the day (forecast peak roughly between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM on Saturday); the Town’s emergency coordinator is urging residents to avoid travel during the peak gusts if possible.

Newfoundland Power says its crews are on standby because northeast winds and salt spray from the ocean can lead to salt contamination on insulators and sometimes cause localized equipment failures or outages. Local fishers and marina operators are also being advised to check mooring lines in the Klondyke area and at the local marina, as the northeast wind can make the water inside the bay very rough. Historically, northeast winds have been more likely to push sea conditions and spray directly into Bay Roberts and to cause damage along the shoreline and to exposed structures compared with some other wind directions.
