The City of Beaumont, Alberta, has started citywide snow clearing operations with crews working 24 hours a day following a recent snowfall. Public works staff began the work after snow levels reached 5 centimetres, triggering the city’s round-the-clock winter maintenance efforts to keep roads safe for drivers and emergency services.

Crews are focusing on the busiest roads first, including 50 Street, 50 Avenue, and routes used by emergency services. According to the city’s snow and ice control plan, these high-priority areas are cleared within 24 hours of a significant snowfall or heavy drifting.

In residential areas, the city will place signs 48 hours before clearing starts to notify residents of temporary parking bans. Any vehicles left on the street after the notice period could be relocated to a nearby road and the owner may be issued a $250 fine.

Homeowners and businesses are also responsible for clearing snow and ice from the sidewalks next to their property. The city requires these walkways to be cleared within 48 hours after the snow stops falling to ensure safe passage for neighbours.

Mayor Lisa Vanderkwaak and the city council updated these service rules in late 2025 to help keep traffic moving safely throughout the season. Residents can track the progress of clearing crews and check for active parking bans through an interactive map on the city website.
