The Alberta Conservation Association is bringing more trout to Don Sparrow Lake in Beaumont, Alberta, starting in mid-April 2026. This annual effort helps local families and anglers enjoy fishing close to home after the cold winter months.

The stocking program is a partnership with the City of Beaumont to keep the pond healthy for recreational use. Many local waterbodies lose fish during the winter when oxygen levels drop, which is a natural process known as winterkill. Adding new trout every year ensures there are enough fish for the community to catch throughout the warmer months.

Don Sparrow Lake, which was formerly known as the Beaumont Pond, is located inside Four Seasons Park. Most of the fish will be put into the water before the May long weekend to make sure the pond is ready for the summer season.

The Northern Lights Fly Fishers also work with the other organizations to help manage and improve the lake for visitors. This project provides residents with easy access to the outdoors and encourages local interest in nature and conservation.
