The City of Beaumont, Alberta, released a detailed list of answers to common questions on March 10, 2026, regarding a new commercial project at 9 Coloniale Way. This document aims to provide clarity to residents after an independent board decided to allow the project to move forward despite local concerns.

The development plan includes two two-storey buildings that will house retail stores, a daycare, and a potential restaurant or cafe. To accommodate staff and visitors, the site will include 82 parking stalls. While the land has been empty for a long time, it has actually been designated for business use for over 30 years under the community’s long-term growth plan.

Because the lot remained vacant for decades, many people in the area had come to view the land as open green space. However, the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board held a hearing on February 23, 2026, to review the project after a resident filed a formal appeal. On March 10, 2026, the board upheld the development permit, confirming the project follows all local land-use rules.

To ensure the new buildings fit into the neighbourhood, the city required the developer to complete a traffic study and a lighting plan as part of the approval. Officials also worked with the builder to improve the look of the building fronts so they better match the residential feel of the street.

The city’s new information document explains that while the land is privately owned, these extra requirements were added to address safety and community feedback. With the appeal board’s decision now final, the project is cleared to move into its next stages of construction.
