The Brokenhead River Regional Library in Beausejour, Manitoba, is seeking contractors to expand and upgrade its public washroom to remove barriers and improve accessibility for patrons.
The library board has opened a Request for Quotes (RFQ) for the renovation, with a submission deadline of February 19, 2026. The work includes widening the doorway to a 36-inch commercial standard, installing a push-button automatic door opener, and adding new grab bars and non-slip flooring.
In the project’s preliminary narrative, Ashley Myers, Director of Library Services, said: “The library serves as a community hub for everyone. This renovation isn’t just about meeting a provincial deadline; it’s about ensuring that a mother with a stroller or a veteran in a wheelchair can use our facilities with the same dignity as any other patron.” The upgrades are intended to help the library meet provincial standards under the Accessibility for Manitobans Act (AMA), which sets accessibility standards and requires public-sector organizations to identify and remove barriers, including standards for the built environment.
The library is located at 427 Park Avenue and serves residents of the Town of Beausejour, the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead, and nearby communities such as Tyndall and Garson. Contractors must provide proof of liability insurance and Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba (WCB) coverage as part of their submission.
