The Rural Municipality of Brokenhead will hold an informational open house on January 8, 2026, at the Beausejour Brokenhead Community Hall, 72013 Road 42E in Beausejour. Notices published December 17, 2025, explain that attendees can learn about proposed changes to Zoning By-Law No. 2269-25, which aim to ease rules around duplexes, tiny homes, secondary suites and smaller residential lot sizes.

The amendment is tied to the federal Housing Accelerator Fund. It would allow “missing middle” housing types in zones now limited to single-family homes and introduce a mixed-use category permitting shops or offices with upper-floor apartments in the Central Commercial area. Backers say the changes will boost housing supply; others worry about impacts on resource conservation lands and the rural character of the Beausejour-Brokenhead region.

Residents can view the full amendment text on the municipality’s by-law index or read the official notice of hearing in the PDF posted on the RM website. Written comments may be submitted to the Brokenhead River Planning District office at the same address or by email before council’s statutory public hearing.

Following the open house, council will hold a formal public hearing and three readings of the by-law before voting on final approval. Community feedback will inform any adjustments to the zoning amendment in early 2026.
