The Tłı̨chǫ Government is hosting the Ediwa Weyallon Handgames Tournament in Behchokǫ̀, Northwest Territories, from February 27 to March 1, 2026. This event is the largest of its kind in the territory and features a total prize pool of $150,000 to support local culture and community spirit.

The competition is named in honour of Ediwa (Edward) Weyallon, a respected elder and leader who received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his work. These traditional games involve two teams using hand signals and rhythmic drumming to hide and guess the location of small tokens.

Teams are competing for significant cash prizes, with the first-place winners taking home $50,000. Other top teams will also receive payouts, including $30,000 for second place and $20,000 for third place.

The Behchokǫ̀ Presence Office is managing the registration for the event. Organizers are encouraging teams to sign up early because spots for the tournament fill up quickly.
