The Tłı̨chǫ Government’s Department of Healing and Community Wellness is hosting a series of diabetes education workshops in Behchokǫ̀, Northwest Territories, to help residents learn about healthy living through traditional foods. The Wellness For Life program will take place from March 9 to March 12, 2026, at the Behchokǫ̀ Cultural Centre.
Led by Health Promotion Manager April Alexis, these evening sessions will run from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and focus on practical tips for everyday life rather than traditional lectures. Participants will discuss how traditional foods connect with wellness and learn how to make food choices that support their families.
Special workshops for youth are also being offered on March 13 and March 20, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This initiative follows virtual sessions held in late February and is part of an effort by the Tłı̨chǫ Government to bring health tools directly to citizens in their own community.
By providing this education close to home, the program aims to reduce the need for residents and caregivers to travel to other regions for health support. The workshop series is also set to expand to the community of Whatì during the week of March 16, 2026.
