The Town of Blackfalds, Alberta, is calling for nominations for the 2026 Volunteer Awards as the deadline approaches in late February. This annual program recognizes the people and groups who give their time to support local non-profits and community causes.
Residents can choose from six different categories, including the Carol Simpson Volunteer of the Year and the Dylan Stork Youth Ambassador Award. A unique option is the Gary Kroetsch Volun-Told Award, which is for someone who helps out reliably whenever they are asked without seeking any public praise.
The town also honours younger citizens through the Leaders of Tomorrow Awards. These awards are split into three groups for students in elementary school, junior high, and high school to celebrate their service to others.
To nominate a local hero, residents can fill out a form on the town website or contact the Family and Community Support Services office. The recognition typically happens during National Volunteer Week, which takes place from April 19 to April 25, 2026.
