The Blackfalds & District Agricultural Society is hosting the Jim Hurley Free Skate this Sunday, February 15, 2026, in Blackfalds, Alberta. The event gives families a chance to get on the ice for free at the Eagle Builders Centre from 6:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The skating session takes place in Arena 2 and serves as a start to the community’s Winterfest celebrations over the Family Day long weekend. This weekly event is held in memory of Jim Hurley, a long-time volunteer who was a major part of the town’s agricultural and skating community.
Safety rules are in place for the session, and staff strongly recommend that all skaters wear helmets while on the ice. To keep the rink safe and clean, visitors are not allowed to bring strollers or wear outdoor shoes on the ice surface.
The Town of Blackfalds provides the facility and staff while the agricultural society covers the costs of the ice time. This partnership ensures that local residents have a regular, free way to stay active and meet with neighbors during the winter months.
