Cheryl Kelley, the Director of Planning and Development for the Town of Bracebridge, Ontario, is retiring in April 2026 after 23 years of service to the municipality. Her departure marks a major leadership shift for the department that oversees local construction projects and manages community growth in the Muskoka region.

The town originally announced the leadership transition in December 2025, expressing gratitude for Kelley’s long career. Since joining the town in 2003, she has led several major municipal initiatives, including the development of the Town’s Official Plan and the Downtown Master Plan.

To ensure continuity for residents and developers, Matt Holmes has been named as the new Director of Planning and Development. Mr. Holmes, a 25-year veteran of the town’s planning department, officially stepped into the role on March 9, 2026. He previously served as the manager of planning services for 11 years.

The two leaders are currently working together during a transition period that will last through early April. This handover ensures that ongoing work, such as reviewing building applications and making land-use decisions, remains on track.

The planning department remains a key point of contact for homeowners and developers starting new projects in Bracebridge. The town expects the leadership change to be a seamless process for those working with the department.
