The Trillium Lakelands District School Board celebrated local successes during its public meeting on February 24, 2026, in Bracebridge, Ontario. Erin Rowsell, the board’s Administrative Solutions Manager, received the Director’s Recognition Award for her work with student information systems and for mentoring other staff members across the province.

A local robotics group called team #70999 MUFFINS earned an invitation to an international tournament, the Canada Cup of Robotics Niagara 2026. The rookie team includes students in grades 4 through 8 from several Huntsville-area schools—including Huntsville Public School, Riverside Public School, Pine Glen Public School, V.K. Greer Memorial Public School, and Land of Lakes Public School—and qualified after raising $8,000 for a local scholarship.

The board also announced a new Outdoor Education and Indigenous Centre Committee. This group, led by Associate Superintendent of Learning Jennifer Clark, will work to ensure students spend more time learning outside in ways that include Indigenous knowledge while still following the official Ontario curriculum.

The meeting included updates on focus schools, where staff are using special methods to help students improve their grades. Schools across the district are also currently flying flags at half-mast to show support for the Tumbler Ridge community in British Columbia following a tragedy on February 10, 2026.

Families are reminded that there is no school for students on February 27, 2026, because of a professional activity day. The board is also starting a new program to help kindergarten students develop social and emotional skills.
