Environment Canada rescinded the cold warning for Bracebridge, Ontario, on January 26, 2026, although forecasters cautioned residents to remain careful as dangerous conditions persist. Even though no alert is currently in effect, a combination of fresh snow and gusty winds is expected to make the morning commute difficult across the region.
The latest update from Environment Canada (observations at Muskoka Airport) shows the air temperature around −17°C (observed −17.4°C at 9:09 a.m.), with northwest winds gusting up to 40 km/h; forecast wind chill values are as low as about −28°C. Forecasters are watching a short burst of snow that could leave roughly 2–5 centimetres of accumulation in a short period.
Environment Canada and observers at Muskoka Airport warned that blowing snow and gusty winds could reduce visibility on exposed routes, including sections of Highway 11. The Meteorological Service of Canada advises that at wind chill values near −28°C exposed skin can freeze in about 10 to 30 minutes, and recommends dressing in warm layers, covering exposed skin and limiting time outdoors.
Local services are monitoring the situation. The Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) typically reviews road and bus safety before making cancellation decisions and is assessing conditions for morning routes. Town of Bracebridge Public Works crews are monitoring and clearing the light snow burst to reduce slippery conditions for drivers.
