Residents in Bracebridge, Ontario, are being told to prepare for dangerous driving conditions today as heavy snow squalls move through the area. Environment Canada issued a Yellow Level Snow Squall Warning late Tuesday (issued 10:39 p.m. ET, Jan. 27), forecasting 10 to 20 centimetres of snow and periods of near-zero visibility through Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

The storm follows a very cold night: observations at Muskoka Airport (CYQA) fell to about −22.7°C. These squalls can bring sudden whiteouts, making it very difficult for drivers to see while travelling on Highway 11 and other local roads.

The Town of Bracebridge is reminding everyone to give snowplows plenty of room to work as crews clear streets. Parents and students should also check the Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) for updates on any school bus cancellations or changes.

To help with cleanup, the town’s winter parking rules prohibit on-street parking on municipal streets between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. from Oct. 16 through Apr. 15 to facilitate snow clearing; residents are also asked to keep fire hydrants clear of snow so they remain accessible to emergency services. Media and weather reports have noted similarities to a December 2024 lake-effect event that dumped roughly 140 cm of snow on nearby Gravenhurst and prompted a state of emergency.
