On Saturday, March 28, 2026, a local Star Trek fan club will host a pet food drive in Bracebridge, Ontario, to support animals in need. The USS Nomad NCC 72382-A is collecting donations at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 161 craft show to help stock the shelves at the local animal shelter.

The club is a chapter of Starfleet Task Force 31 and focuses on helping the community through regular volunteer work. Members led by Commanding Officer Joel Robert Ehl will be at the show to accept pet food from residents as they browse the local crafts.

All donations will go to the Ontario SPCA Muskoka Animal Centre, which is located at 1234 Muskoka Road 118 West. The animal centre is part of a charity that began in 1873 and does not receive yearly money from the government, so it relies on the community to keep its programs running.

This drive comes at a time when more families need help feeding their pets due to financial hardships. In 2025, the Ontario SPCA pet food program gave out over 375,000 pounds of food, which provided nearly one million meals to pets across the province.

The event is being held as the Royal Canadian Legion celebrates its national centennial year. Residents can drop off their pet food contributions throughout the day to help ensure local animals stay well-fed.
