Residents in Brandon, Manitoba, can now sign up for 2026 firearms licensing and hunter safety training following the release of new local course dates. These certifications are required for anyone looking to get a federal licence to own a firearm or a provincial permit to hunt this year.
According to the Manitoba Wildlife Federation, all hunters who obtained their first hunting licence after 1969 must complete a safety course before they can buy a provincial hunting licence. For those who want to buy a firearm, the Canadian Firearms Safety Course is the mandatory first step to get a federal Possession and Acquisition License (PAL).
Training is provided by instructors who travel to the region, such as Gord Penner, and local organizations like North And West Firearms Safety Training. While hunter education is available as an online course for $65, in-person firearm safety classes in the area usually cost between $100 and $175.
Many of the hands-on training sessions and exams take place at the Brandon Wildlife Association range, located at 2201 49th Street East. A new cycle of courses will begin in spring 2026, and organizers suggest residents register soon because local classes often reach capacity months before they start.
