Residents in Brandon, Manitoba, can now access free weekly classes to help manage heart disease or recover from surgery without a physician referral. Prairie Mountain Health (PMH) is running a February 2026 “Heart Healthy Education” series on Tuesdays (Feb. 3, 10, 17 and 24) from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, with an option to join virtually for those who cannot attend in person.

The sessions are delivered by PMH’s Chronic Disease Education Program and feature registered nurses and registered dietitians who teach healthy eating, physical activity and medication management. Anyone can self-enroll in the classes by calling the Chronic Disease Education Program toll-free at 1-877-509-7852. For additional provincial cardiac rehabilitation information, see Cardiac Sciences Manitoba’s cardiac rehabilitation directory, which lists the Prairie Mountain Health/Brandon Heart Program contacts.

These sessions arrive as the Brandon Regional Health Centre undergoes a nearly $70 million expansion announced by the Manitoba government. The project includes a new 30-bed Internal Medicine Unit scheduled to open early in 2026 to provide specialized care for patients with complex chronic conditions. PMH officials say the free community education sessions are intended to help residents manage their health at home and reduce the need for acute hospital admissions.
